Gurudwara Golden Temple is located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab. It is also known as Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib. History of Golden Temple or Harmandir Sahib

Golden temple was founded by Guru Ram Das Ji in 1574. Most part of the city Amritsar was developed in 17th and 18th century. The land for the site was bought by the Guru Ram Das Sahib on payment from the Zamindars (landlords) of natal villages. Guru Arjun Dev ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, gave the idea of construction of a temple where Sikhs can come and worship and he himself designed the architecture of Shri Harmandir Sahib. Hazrat Mian Mir Ji, a Muslim saint laid the foundation of the temple. The construction was supervised by Guru Arjun Dev and was assisted by  prominent Sikh personalities like Baba Budha ji, Bhai Gurdas ji, Bhai Sahlo ji and many other devoted Sikhs. The construction of the temple was started in 1588 and completed in 1601.
